Frequently Asked Questions
What is involved with the first massage appointment?
The first 15 minutes of a new patient appointment are allotted to discuss the health history forms and to allow the massage therapist to ask you general health questions along with information about your primary concerns. The therapist may perform assessments to evaluate the area. The remainder of the appointment time is reserved for treatment.
How long will my treatments be?
This is the optimal time for a complete treatment is 60 minutes for a full body treatment or for a thorough treatment of a specific condition. 45 and 30 minute massages are available, however this only allows for a shorter treatment of less severe symptom patterns for areas such as neck and shoulder, back, or legs and feet.
What do I wear during the massage treatment?
The massage is geared towards your comfort and therefore we ask you to undress to your level of comfort. It is easier for us to treat you most effectively when working directly on your skin; however, we can work through clothing. Often people leave their underwear on, but others feel more comfortable without. You will always be securely draped with the top sheet and only the area treated is undraped. If we need to move you often on the table or guiding you through exercises you will be asked to bring in or wear shorts and a sports bra for the ladies.
What do I do once the massage is finished?
In order to promote elimination and drainage from the tissues, it is recommended that you drink several glasses of water following a massage treatment. Epsom salts bath are also encouraged.
How will I feel after a massage?
Most people experience an overall feeling of relaxation, which may make you feel tired. This is normal, and should resolve within a day or two. You may also experience some soreness after a deeper therapeutic massage, which is normal, but should not last more than 2 days.
Do we direct bill?
We direct bill to the Medical Services Plan, RCMP, and Veterans Affairs. For private insurance companies we direct bill to Blue Cross and Green Shield and are looking into adding some more. If you are concerned send us an e-mail and we are happy to look into it and confirm whether we can direct bill your provider.
Do we direct bill to ICBC?
We do not direct bill to ICBC, but you can submit your receipt from your treatment to your adjuster to get reimbursed a portion or all of your treatment cost.
Are we wheelchair accessible?
Yes we have an elevator in the building to whisk you up to the second floor and we have handicap parking.
How will it work without a receptionist?
Each RMT has their contact info on the website and are happy to assist you in your needs. We have a link from the website to an online booking service that lets you manage your own bookings easily from the comfort of your home or office and anytime of the day or night. If e-mail and online booking isn’t your thing then we are happy to answer your questions and help you book over the phone. Please leave a message with the RMT you wish to speak with/book with and they will return your call as promptly as they can. In this transition we ask for your patience as not having reception is new to some of the RMTs as well!
What if I can’t make my appointment?
If you realize you cannot make your appointment we appreciate it if you can let us know as soon as you are able to. We want to be able to make the spot available to others if you don’t need it. As we do’t have reception and cannot make last minute calls to the cancellation lists, we need to have prior notice and will enforce a 24hr cancellation policy.
